Guests are Welcome!

Since girl-child moved out I officially have a guest room. I hurried and set up the ironing board and put my sewing machine on the left-behind desk. The space was claimed as mine! However - said room is quite sparse and is in need of some sprucing. And since my talents do not lay in interior design, I'm asking for help.

The walls are cream colored with this blue ticking-like wainscoting wallpaper and blue curtains. None of that is likely to change. I was thinking about this bedding from Pottery Barn:

but it's got that crisp white backing so I'm not too sure. And what sort of headboard? Iron perhaps? I'd like the room to have a country (though not tacky - no hearts or dried flowers), comfy feel to it. Any Marthas out there feel like decorating my guestroom? The payment is free lodging and a waffle breakfast.

Anyone?

Hrmmm, your pic of the room isn't very helpful. It looks more beigy than cream and blue, so I can't get a feel for how the bedding would look against it. I will say that the bedding will not go with the print on those curtains. *shudder*

Personally, I LOVE the bedding. The toile pattern looks very French Country, welcoming and inviting. Therefore, I vote you change the curtains to a solid blue. ;)

Love the bedding-very bright and cheerful. And I think an Iron type bed would do just fine. I do agree with Melinda that better drapes might be needed....
Also think a bigger cheery rug will be needed and a nice reading chair....

Make sure its nice before we get there.

The toile is pretty, but that room needs a wildly colored scrap-quilt and light, large print curtains. However, I realise that change comes slowly to the Crocker household, so store-bought,'safe' bedding will do until your dearest Me hooks you up with some patchwork.
I had such a pleasant day with you. I miss you already. We'll honk like fiends as we pass by your exit later this morning. *mwah* C

Ok, I *love* that bedding. If you want to keep the rest of the room as is, you could buy it in blue rather than the red. OR you could get the lovely red, paint the walls a nice (light) cool blue or green and get white eyelet curtains. New rug and comfy chair are also a nice idea.

As a quick note, I Love the toile - so work around it. Sorry I missed the lunch with you and Cami - my legs weren't working very good and the Mall adds to injury. The husband even said "You know you want to go". Wow, they can read your emotions once and awhile. Glad you had a nice day.

Love the bedding choice. Don't like the idea of an iron headboard behind the toile though. (and I love iron headboards) I haven't been bed shopping in forever though so I'm not sure what is out there.

I love love love the toile. If we weren't in destitution-business-starup-mode, I'd be lobbying hard for a set. (My current one is oddly similar in feel, lol, just getting a little old.)

I say get the bedding if you love it. The rest of the room will fall into place as you look around. Curtains might be needed at some point, but when you get the bedding in there, you might be surprised. Don't stress about mixing cream and white--I like the two together, and the bedding is so wonderfully crisp looking. :o)

I love finding one thing that I just adore, and then building the rest of the room around it. It's my favorite way to do interior spaces. Have fun! ;o)
