what's cooking

Caramel Popcorn
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 quarts popped popcorn
Preheat oven to 250°. Place popcorn in a very large bowl. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in soda and vanilla. Pour in a thin stream over popcorn, stirring to coat. Place in two large shallow baking dishes and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool completely before breaking into pieces.

Nice sock! I love the colours -- made a pair myself with Tuscany last year.

I could just go for some of that popcorn right now. Yummy!

See I think the puddled heel (and toe) looks pretty neat with the striped sock....

'Sigh' caramel popcorn and braces just don't go together....

Your sock is lovely. Is the popcorn picture meant to torture me? It's working...

hmmm... I haven't made caramel corn in years. It used to be my go-to party item if I had to bring something more than paper goods.

The sock is beautiful!

Way to go, Melly! Someday, I'll knit more small-gauge socks, too. For now, though, I'm a strictly 6st/in gal, otherwise I'd never finish anything . . . ;o)

That socks a beauty. And the carmel corn looks divine -- too bad I can't make it for a few more lbs. LOL!

Wow! That popcorn is sooo good and so easy my daughters have made it two days in a row! We've tried others that were too sticky or the popcorn got too soggy, but this stuff is great! Thanks, Melly!
Oh, and the sock is nice too.
